State report card

Tennessee gives every public school an A-F letter grade. The Department of Education says the grades are meant “to provide a snapshot of how each school performed during the previous academic year,” according to its school letter grades page. The grade combines four indicators, each scored from 1 to 5: student achievement, academic growth, growth of the highest-need students and, for high schools only, college and career readiness.

Franklin High earned an A for 2024-25, the latest grades published, with a perfect overall score of 5 in the state’s letter grade file.

Attendance zone and feeder schools

Check any address with the WCS zoned school finder (abbreviate the street type, leave the ZIP code blank) or on the district’s school zone maps. You must live in Williamson County to attend WCS. Out-of-zone requests open Feb. 4 and close April 15, and out-of-zone students do not get bus service.

In Brentwood, the Franklin High zone is the part of the Walnut Grove Elementary zone that crosses the city line in Cool Springs, according to the WCS zone maps, as drawn in the 2023 board-approved boundaries published in the City of Franklin’s planning GIS, compared with the Census Bureau’s city boundary. Walnut Grove Elementary feeds Grassland Middle, which feeds Franklin High; the Grassland and Hunters Bend elementary zones feed Grassland Middle too. Grassland Elementary has a Brentwood mailing address, but its zone lies outside the city limits. Our Cool Springs neighborhood guide lists the subdivisions zoned this way. Zones follow streets, not city limits, so confirm any address with the zoned school finder.
