Brentwood is split between two electric utilities, so the first step in any outage is knowing which one serves your house. The city says Nashville Electric Service (NES) generally serves the part of Brentwood north of Concord Road, and Middle Tennessee Electric (MTE), a member-owned cooperative, generally serves the part south of Concord Road. Your electric bill names your utility.

- Report an outage: the myMTE app and web portal, the automated outage line at 877-777-0215, or the 24/7 live line at 877-777-9020. The automated system asks for your account number, meter number or the phone number on your account.

- Outdoor lights: report an MTE-owned outdoor light or streetlight with MTE’s online form.
Before you call, MTE suggests checking your breakers or fuses and looking at your meter. If the meter box or wires look damaged, a licensed electrician may need to make repairs before MTE can reconnect power.
Safety during an outage
- Downed lines: treat every downed line as live. Stay at least 30 feet away and call 911.
- Trees on lines: leave the work to the utility. If a line is sparking, call 911, MTE says.
- Generators: never run one inside your home. Only a licensed electrician should connect a generator to your home’s panel, because a bad hookup can “back-feed” power onto utility lines, according to MTE.
- Medical equipment: MTE lets members note special circumstances on their accounts but says that does not grant priority restoration. Have a backup plan.
