Brentwood restaurants are inspected by the Tennessee Department of Health. Look up any inspection report online; complaints: 800-293-8228.

Last checked Oct. 17, 2026. Facts on this page come from the Williamson County Health Department’s environmental health page and the Tennessee Department of Health.

Every restaurant in Brentwood is inspected by the Tennessee Department of Health. Williamson County is not one of the state’s five “contract counties” that run their own food programs, so its inspection reports sit in the state’s online system with the rest of Tennessee’s.

Who to call

  • Restaurant complaints and foodborne illness: Tennessee hotline, 800-293-8228
  • Look up an inspection: TDH inspection reports
  • Williamson County Health Department: 1320 W. Main St., Franklin, 615-794-1542

How to look up a score

  1. Go to the Tennessee Department of Health’s inspection reports site.
  2. Search by the restaurant’s name, or by “Brentwood” to see establishments in the city.
  3. Open an inspection to read the date, the result and the items the inspector noted.

Tennessee restaurants also post their most recent inspection report, on bright yellow paper with the score in large numbers, according to a Department of Health release.

What gets inspected

The county’s environmental health division inspects:

  • Restaurants
  • Mobile food units (food trucks) and temporary food vendors at festivals
  • Farmers market food units
  • Hotels, bed-and-breakfasts and organized campgrounds
  • Public swimming pools
  • Tattoo and body piercing studios
  • Mass gatherings

It also handles rabies prevention, according to the environmental health page.

How to read an inspection

  • A score is a snapshot. It describes what the inspector saw on one visit. Conditions can be better or worse on another day, and a single report does not rank one restaurant against another.
  • Read the violations, not just the number. The report lists each item the inspector cited.
  • Nashville is different. Brentwood borders Davidson County, and restaurants just over the line are in Nashville. Davidson County, along with Hamilton, Knox, Madison and Shelby counties, is a contract county that handles its own food inspections, the state’s environmental health page says. Records for those counties may not be in the statewide system.

The rules inspectors apply are the Tennessee Food Safety Rules published by the Secretary of State.

Reporting a problem

  • Something you ate made you sick: fill in the state’s foodborne illness survey or call 800-293-8228.
  • General complaint about a permitted business (dirty conditions, a pool, a tattoo studio): use the state’s complaint survey.
  • Emergencies: 911.

Opening a food business

Restaurant and food truck permits go through the state’s permit application. Temporary event organizers and vendors have their own forms on the county’s environmental health page. A building or sign permit inside the city also needs Brentwood’s approval, and the city requires a business license; see our building permits and zoning guide.

How we report inspections

Brentwood Journal reports inspection results as the state publishes them, with the date of the inspection. We do not characterize a restaurant beyond what the report says, and we note when a follow-up inspection shows problems were fixed.
