Last checked Oct. 18, 2026. Park rules and dog park details come from the City of Brentwood; Radnor Lake’s pet rule from Tennessee State Parks; shop listings from Hill Center Brentwood.
Brentwood calls itself a pet-friendly city: it was certified through the Better Cities For Pets program from Mars Petcare in 2020 and recertified in 2022, the city says. Dogs are welcome on leash in every city park, and one fenced park lets them run.
Who to call
- Brentwood Parks and Recreation: 615-371-0080
- Loose or aggressive dog, or a bite: Brentwood Police non-emergency, 615-371-0160; 911 in an emergency
- City code: the Brentwood Municipal Code, published on Municode
The leash rule
The city’s park rules are short:
- All dogs must be on a leash and under the control of their owners or caretakers.
- Tower Park has a small and large dog park where dogs may roam and run free.
- No other animals in parks, including horses and other barnyard animals.
- Parks close at dusk or 10 p.m. depending on the park; anyone inside after closing is trespassing.
The full animal rules for streets and neighborhoods are in the city’s municipal code, linked above. Many subdivisions add their own HOA rules, so check yours.
Miss Peggy’s Bark Park
Miss Peggy’s Bark Park sits in the southwest corner of Tower Park, 920 Heritage Way, off Concord Road east of I-65.
- Two fenced areas: about 1.5 acres for dogs over 25 pounds, and a smaller area for little dogs.
- Hours: 6 a.m. to dusk, daily.
- The name: Peggy Sain Howell, a longtime civic volunteer and dog lover, died in 2018; Citizens for Brentwood Green Space recommended the park be renamed for her in 2020. The sign at the gate shows her basset hound, Truman.
Best leashed walks
- River Park bikeway, 1100 Knox Valley Drive, across from the library: a two-mile paved path along the Little Harpeth River between Crockett Park and Concord Park. Dawn to dusk.
- Deerwood Arboretum, 320 Deerwood Lane: paved and unpaved trails along the river through 27 acres.
- Smith Park, 1825 Wilson Pike: more than six miles of rugged hiking trail. The city says to bring plenty of water; the only restroom is at the main trailhead.
- Maryland Farms Greenway: a paved path a little under a mile, on foot only, dawn to dusk.
- Tower Park itself has walking and biking trails around the WSM tower, so a lap before or after the dog park is easy.
Distances, maps and parking are in our walking and biking trails guide.
Where dogs can’t go
- Radnor Lake State Park, just north of Brentwood in Nashville: pets are allowed only on Otter Creek Road, Hall Drive and the dam, the state says, not on the hiking trails.
Pet shops and grooming
At Hill Center Brentwood, Franklin Road and Maryland Way:
- Hollywood Feed, a pet food and supply store
- Scenthound, dog grooming
