Memorial Day 2027 is Monday, May 31. It honors the men and women who died serving in the U.S. armed forces. In Brentwood it also marks the start of summer: school lets out the week before, and the county’s Brentwood Splash Park reopens in May.

Brentwood’s Memorial Day ceremony

In 2024, Brentwood resident Tom Freeman, a U.S. Air Force and National Guard veteran and co-founder of Honor Our Veterans, asked the city about hosting Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies, and the City Commission voted unanimously to partner with Honor Our Veterans and the Vietnam Veterans of America, Franklin Chapter, to host them, the city said.

The 2027 Memorial Day ceremony has not been announced. The city posts its events on its events listing; we will add the date, time and place here. The city is also planning an official veterans monument beside Brentwood Police Headquarters, 910 Heritage Way, where it held its 2025 Veterans Day ceremony.

Coming sooner: this year’s Veterans Day ceremony is at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2026, at Brentwood Police Headquarters, per the city’s event page.

Nashville National Cemetery

The nearest national cemetery is Nashville National Cemetery, 1420 Gallatin Pike South in Madison. Cemetery staff decorate every grave with a small U.S. flag before Memorial Day and remove the flags right after it, and the flag over the cemetery flies at half-staff on the morning of Memorial Day, the VA says. The grounds are open daily from sunrise to sunset, and the office, normally closed on federal holidays, stays open on Memorial Day.
