Lipscomb Elementary School is a Williamson County Schools (WCS) elementary school on Concord Road in central Brentwood, just east of I-65. Its history goes back to 1866, when the original Lipscomb Academy was founded by Professor William Lipscomb at Owens Station, now Brentwood, according to the school’s About Us page. The school burned on Feb. 12, 1958, was rebuilt on the same foundation by 1959, and students moved into the present building on March 29, 1993. Across Concord Road stands the WSM radio tower, built in 1932 to carry the Grand Ole Opry; when the tower was shortened in 1939, its top section was given to the school and still serves as Lipscomb’s flagpole. The school says it was named a National Blue Ribbon School in 2020.

State report card

Tennessee gives every public school an A-F letter grade. The Department of Education says the grades are meant “to provide a snapshot of how each school performed during the previous academic year,” according to its school letter grades page. The grade combines four indicators, each scored from 1 to 5: student achievement, academic growth, growth of the highest-need students and, for high schools only, college and career readiness.

Lipscomb Elementary earned an A for 2024-25, the latest grades published, with a perfect overall score of 5 in the state’s letter grade file.

Indicator Score (1 to 5)
Achievement 5
Growth 5
Growth of highest-need students 5
Overall success rate, all students, 2024-25 tests 86.5%

Spring 2026 TCAP tests (share of students who met or exceeded expectations, from the state’s 2026 school assessment file):

Subject Met or exceeded Valid tests
English language arts, grades 3-5 83.8% 272
Math, grades 3-5 87.9% 272
Science 87.5% 272

Attendance zone and feeder schools

Check any address with the WCS zoned school finder (abbreviate the street type, leave the ZIP code blank) or on the district’s school zone maps. You must live in Williamson County to attend WCS. Out-of-zone requests open Feb. 4 and close April 15, and out-of-zone students do not get bus service.

Lipscomb Elementary feeds Brentwood Middle and then Brentwood High, according to the WCS zone maps, as drawn in the 2023 board-approved boundaries published in the City of Franklin’s planning GIS, and Brentwood High’s history page. The whole Lipscomb zone is inside Brentwood, in the middle of the city; Brenthaven, Parkside at Brenthaven and Brenthaven East are among the subdivisions zoned for it. Zones follow streets, not city limits, so confirm any address with the zoned school finder.
